Save Your Gmail to Your Computer

Did you know?  If you have Gmail, you can back up your Gmail email to your own hard drive.  That way you can delete your online mail leaving nothing for hackers to find.  You can also use it to free up space in your account.

UpSafe is a simple and free Windows program that will back up what you have, and automatically back up your future Gmail activity.  I was very pleased that I could clear my email and still retain an archive on my computer. It can be found at

Meeting on Wednesday, March 15 Windows 10 Presentation

The RCW Computer Club will meet again on Wednesday, March 15 at 7:00 in Classroom 2.  Larry Kuntz will give us a very valuable presentation on Windows 10.

Don't forget to make use of the computer help session on Monday at 1-3 in Cardroom 2 behind the Library.  The season is drawing to a close and many are heading back home including our experts and helpers.

We will have a final meeting on Wednesday, March 22 and will discuss plans for next year.  Everyone's input is needed.

Computer Snacks -- Did they get eaten??

It seems the videos and web pages that were supposed to follow the March 1 meeting have disappeared. It has me baffled but here they are again.

Website that posts your home address -- Do you want it too?

Website that posts your home address --
Do you want it available so easily?

A new family tree website is up and running.  It is called Family Tree Now.  The most unique factor that sets Family Tree Now apart from other people search sites is the fact that all of the information here is available for free in one place, no registration required. Anyone who has just a first and last name is able to dig up anything: cell phone numbers, work information, relative’s addresses, and a whole host of other information. This information is publicly available if you’re willing to dig in and search for it at a variety of different sites, but Family Tree Now takes it quite a few steps further, putting it all in one place for free.

According to Kim Komando, you would be able to opt out of having your personal information on this site as well as others.  Read this link for more information.  http://www.komando.com/tips/391215/how-to-opt-out-of-the-most-popular-people-search-sites

Another link that explains it more fully is at LifeWire.  https://www.lifewire.com/family-tree-now-4129031?utm_campaign=todaysl&utm_medium=email&utm_source=cn_nl&utm_content=9067687&utm_term=bouncex15

While it may be good for your search for relatives, you may want to think about what can be found out about you.  Ancestry and other family tree sites do not provide information on living people to the general public.

March 8 PC Club Meeting, Wednesday, 7:00 pm, Classroom 2

The March 8th meeting will be "What is the Cloud?" presented by Chuck Webster.  Chuck worked in the server industry and has a unique perspective on what that nebulous thing is and where it came from. His knowledge will help you not only with understanding the "Cloud" but also its security and structure.

I would also like to share some information from another blog that I manage called Traveling-with-technology.  This blog contains information and sites I have found useful that I want to maintain for myself and traveling friends.  This current post has some current information on the increasing of Gmail attachment size and a free software that allows you to save and backup your Gmail messages to your PC, quite useful in preventing the  ðŸ˜"heartbreak"😭 of lost or accidently deleted messages.  It can also provide the archive needed to delete emails to free up Google space for more.

Hope to see you on Wednesday!
